Hand Bell Concerts for Christmas 2007

New Bell Ropes
We have just had new ropes fitted to our six bells. The money for these was given by 2001 Aston Fun Day fund. The bell ringers man the car park for this event which has become even more popular than Stevenage day.

Blindfold Ringing
During our hand bell concerts, we like to inject a bit of humour and variety into the show. In past years we have included magical diversions, some funny sketches such as 'The Fly' and have also got members of the audiences involved in ringing using giant letter cards and a system known as 'Split Minimus''.

The latest addition to our concerts is blindfold ringing. Members of the audience are given bells to ring and are blindfolded. They are then instructed to ring their bells only when tapped on the shoulder. This has proved to be a hilarious item in the shows.

Old Photograph

Old newspaper photograph of Aston hand bell ringers of the past

We recently found an old black and white photograph of the Aston bell ringers of 1912, which had been published in a local paper, hence the poor quality of the picture.

The ringers shown are: George Shambrook, Henry Draper, Frederic Pallet, Henry Wilson, John Charlton and William Smith.

We do have a good laugh in our group, just look at those knees. The things you see when you don't have a gun.
