Brownies is open to girls aged between 7 and 10, and is the middle
section of the Guide Association. Other sections are Rainbows aged 5-7 and
Guides aged 10-14. Brownies were first started in 1914. The girls are divided into groups, called sixes (usually because there
are up to 6 girls in a group) and these are named after 'Brownies' or
woodland animals. We have just
chosen new sixes in our pack and they are: Rabbits Squirrels Foxes Hedgehogs
We wear a distinctive yellow and brown mix and match style uniform and can choose what we want from a range of clothes.
The most important part of being a Brownie is making a promise which we try hard to keep. Once we have made the promise at a special enrolment ceremony, we are presented with our promise badge. It is yellow to show it is for Brownies, All sections have the same badge, just in different colours.
The Brownie Promise Badge Then we become members of a World Wide organisation that has been around for nearly 90 years. This is our world badge. Every country in the world that has Girl Guides or Girl Scouts uses this badge to show that we are all members of the same organisation.
